Hot Fudge Sauce


Rich and smooth homemade hot fudge sauce. Indulge in this homemade hot fudge sauce over a bowl of vanilla ice cream, incorporate it into an ice cream cake, or use it to make chocolate covered strawberries.

How to make hot fudge sauce

  1. Add butter, cocoa, sugar, and evaporated milk to a medium saucepan. melt over low-medium heat until mixture is a smooth liquid. about 5 minutes

2. Increase the temperature to medium-high and bring to a boil. It takes about 10 minutes to come to a rolling boil. whisk occasionally to prevent burning.

3. Continue to boil mixture for 7 minutes whisking frequently to prevent burning. Do not skip this step as this thickens the hot fudge.

4. After 7 minutes, remove from heat, and immediately add vanilla extract and semi-sweet chocolate chips. stir with a rubber spatula until chocolate chips are melted and the sauce is nice and smooth.

What do I do if my hot fudge sauce is runny?

If your hot fudge sauce isn’t as thick as you like it to be, all you have to do is put the hot fudge sauce back into a medium sized saucepan and bring it to a boil over medium heat. Allow it to boil for a couple minutes to thicken. As the water in the sauce evaporates, the sauce will thicken. Stir frequently. Be careful not to burn the sauce as burnt chocolate cannot be fixed.

How to store hot fudge sauce

Cool the hot fudge sauce to room temperature before chilling. refrigerate for up to 1 month in a mason jar.

Reheat hot fudge sauce in a microwave safe bowl in 20 second increments until its hot being careful not to burn the chocolate. You can also reheat in a double broiler.

  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup evaporated milk (12 oz)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

  2. Raise the temperature to medium-high heat and cook until the mixture boils whisking occasionally.
  3. Continue to boil for 7 minutes, whisking frequently.
  4. After 7 minutes, remove from heat and immediately stir in vanilla extract and chocolate chips until the chocolate chips are melted and smooth.
